Underflow: The Need For Speed
JPEG produces bits at a variable rate (bits/sec).
Modem needs data at constant rate.
If buffer underflows, modem times out
- Close scanner lid with no paper and transmit: worst case
- Experiment: timing JPEG of filtered white noise image
- Need to speed JPEG for low end machines
